One Family, Two Seasons: Why One Photo Session Doesn't Have to Be the Last
There's something special about seeing a family more than once.
The first time we meet, there might be a little nervousness, a few new faces to get comfortable with, and the excitement of capturing a particular season of life. But when we meet again, something shifts. We're already familiar with one another, the little ones have had time to grow, and there's a little more room for everyone to simply be themselves.
Last year, I introduced a special offer for my Meadows & Co Photography families. When families booked a full session for the following year, they received a FREE Christmas Mini Session - at no additional cost.
It was an opportunity to capture two different seasons of family life, without the commitment of booking two full sessions.
And this beautiful family decided to take me up on it!
What made them say yes?
For this family, the timing worked out beautifully.
With their son's birthday coming up in February, they were already thinking about booking a photography session to celebrate him and capture this stage of his life.
When they came across the offer, it felt like the perfect opportunity.
"My son's birthday is in February and I was looking to book a photo session for his birthday anyway, and I thought it was a good deal."
And honestly, isn't that the beauty of it?
Life with little ones moves so quickly. One minute they're tiny newborns tucked into your arms, and the next they're celebrating another birthday, showing you their latest discoveries and becoming more themselves every day.
Having the opportunity to capture more than one season of that journey is something truly special.
Coming back for another session
Our first session together was for their Christmas Minis, and in their questionnaire, the family shared that they were excited about the experience.
A few months later, I had the pleasure of seeing them again for their son's first birthday session. It felt a little like catching up with an old friend, and it was so lovely to see how much their little one had grown in such a short time.
When I asked how they felt coming back for their second session, they shared that they felt a little more comfortable, knowing we'd already met and they'd enjoyed their first experience.
And this is one of my favourite things about welcoming families back. Each time we meet, there's a little more familiarity, a little more connection, and a chance to capture another chapter of their story.
Because when you book a photography session, you're not just investing in the images you'll receive. You're also spending 20–30 minutes, or sometimes up to an hour, with the person behind the camera.
That experience matters.
You want to feel comfortable enough to laugh, make jokes, have a conversation and simply enjoy being with your family. You want to feel like you can let your guard down, rather than feeling like you're on show or performing for the camera.
That's always my hope for every session. That somewhere between the cuddles, the laughter and the little in-between moments, you forget about the camera and just get to be you.
And when you feel comfortable, those genuine moments have room to unfold naturally.
More Than One Backdrop
“We were a bit surprised at how many different scenes or like areas we moved around to take the photos, we enjoyed that.”
My relaxed, child-led approach allows little ones to move, explore and simply be themselves. From a different patch of light to a quiet moment in a new spot, every corner offers another opportunity to capture something beautiful and uniquely your family.
Would they do it again?
When I asked whether they'd take up the offer again, their answer was a lovely yes.
"I would definitely take this offer up again and would recommend it to other families looking to do another photo session sometime throughout the year"
I know that booking professional family photography is an investment. I also know how quickly the seasons change when you're raising little ones. From maternity to newborn days, first birthdays, family adventures, Mother's Days, Christmas time, and all the ordinary Sundays in between, there's so much worth remembering.
My hope is that families who visit me feel welcome to return, year after year, as their stories continue to unfold.
Because your family isn't the same as it was six months ago. Your little ones have grown, their personalities have blossomed, and there are new little details you'll one day wish you could remember.
Imagine having photographs that capture all of those different chapters. Not just one milestone, but the beautiful in-between moments, too.
